Ballet Bodice & Romantic Tutu

Design Concept & Execution

For my Dancewear class I was asked to design, pattern, and construct a ballet bodice and tutu inspired by a piece of classical music and principle ballet character. I decided to build an ensemble based off of the character Ophelia from Tchaikovsky's Hamlet Overture Fantasia Op 67. Inspired by John Everett Millais' painting Ophelia from 1852, I created an ethereal and romantic tutu that conveys her tragic death, portrayed through elements of hand beading, dyeing, and using gold leafing techniques.
