Viking Helmet

Design Concept & Execution

As an exploration in armor making I wanted to create a helmet inspired by the Viking Spagenhelm, or a segmented helmet with a pointed tip. Using veggie tanned leather for the base of the cap, I tooled and dyed the leather to have a contrasting texture to the rest of the helmet. To achieve the metal bracing and wings, I used Worbla to mold the structures and add detail to emulate the appearance of ancient hand forged metal. To complete the helmet I used the 4 in 1 European chainmail technique to make an aventail with decorative dagged edges.
