Custom Jeweled Crown

Design Concept & Execution

For the production Power Trip at Carnegie Mellon University, I was asked by the Costume Designer, Lily Cunicelli, to build a jeweled crown for the main character King Richard II. Using lamp banding and metal finger extensions, I created a crown base featuring fleur-de-lis accented with long spires to achieve height. To further add texture, color, and depth, I gathered broken jewelry findings and pieces and attached it to the crown base to give it a regal and powerful appearance. Because multiple characters wore it through out the show, removable padding was added so it could fit a variety of head sizes. Altogether, the finalized components of the crown came together to represent the power and dominance that the designer and I wanted to portray for King Richard II.
