For my Mask Making class, I was asked to create a latex mask inspired by the theme of birds. I went forth with the concept of a bird skull that was being reclaimed by nature, and used plastilina clay for the base of my sculpt. I constructed the mask using multiple layers of liquid latex and cheesecloth for thickness and reinforcement, then painted over it to give the appearance of weathered bone  texture. To make it look like the bird skull was decaying and being taken over by nature, I hair punched fake plants into the mask and attached moss so it appeared to be sitting in the forest for ages. To complete the mask, I added an adjustable t - strap so it could fit multiple sizes and so it would stay snug to a performer's head.
