Design Concept & Execution
Sister Act, based on the movie of the same name starring Whoopie Goldberg, is a story that revolves around a want-to-be disco singer who is forced to hide in a convent after accidentally witnessing a murder. Because the musical is set in the late 1970s, I was heavily influenced by the disco star Donna Summer and the fashion trends she set during that time. Emphasis on glitter, glam, and bright colors inspired me to costume everyone who lived outside the convent in a bold, 70's silhouette in order to contrast the nun's stark apparel. It was also important to stay true to the traditional clerical garb that nuns have been wearing for hundreds of years and to be as accurate as possible when it came to portraying those who live in a convent. Altogether, Sister Act provided me an excellent opportunity to learn how to balance the crazy style and fashion of the 70's with the strict religious garb of the church.

It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, based on the original tale, is centered around a man who discovers what life around him would have been like if he had never been born. For this production I sought to place the focus of my designs around a bright and cheery color palette influenced by Christmas themes while staying true to the style and silhouette of the 1940s.

Millinery for The Music Man on Broadway
Design Concept & Execution
In 2021 I had the opportunity to work with Hugh Hanson as his Millinery Assistant for The Music Man on Broadway, with costumes designed by Santo Loquasto. I assisted in creating hats for the "Pick a Little" ladies from the 1910s, constructing sculptural headpieces inspired by the Statue of Liberty, and making multiples of the same hat for ensemble characters. During this time I worked on foam carving for hat blocks, making mockups for design meetings and presentations, creating buckram and thermoplastic bases for headpieces and hats, and crafting decorative elements for the finished pieces.
