Shogun Leather Armor

Design Concept & Execution

For this costume piece I wanted to create leather armor inspired by the art and culture of the Japanese Samurai warriors. I composed the base of my arm brace and shoulder pauldron using the traditional Japanese method of using ita - monos (small, individual, leather plates) and hand stitching them with odoshi (thin, leather strands). To make the design cohesive, I dyed the leather pieces a deep mahogany color in order to achieve the harsh and masculine components I wanted to convey in the armor.
